Holiday Gifts During a Pandemic

It’s that time of year again, where you mercilessly bang your head against a wall trying to think of the perfect gift for that oh so special someone in your life, and you know that the days of robes and new pajamas are far behind you.
But this year is far different from years past. You know, we’ve got a global pandemic, businesses are shutting their doors (either temporarily or permanently) and you just feel safer at home and are planning your Zoom holiday dinner since nobody wants to travel.
Instead of trying to shop til you drop to find the best gift ever, why not give the gift of an experience? One they can use on their own time, with or without you? If you know me, you know that my vacations are one of my most coveted things (and something I am REALLY missing this year), and I always value experiences over things. So, I’ve put together a handy little guide to some of my personal favorites in the Troy and Metro Detroit area for you!

A membership to the Detroit Zoo. The Detroit Zoo is open nearly year round, so you can see the lions, tigers and bears, oh my! Not to mention polar bears, giraffes, primates, and my least favorite, the butterfly exhibit. (What can I say? I’m that weirdo that freaks out when things fly at me, even a tiny little butterfly). Plus, social distancing is totally doable.
A Gift Certificate to Pumachug. As a small business it’s important to support other small businesses and Pumachug in Clawson is one of those that deserves some love. Their opening kept getting pushed back in 2020 because again, pandemic, and everything slowed down. They’ve been open for a couple of months only to have to go back to takeout only in November 2020 while Michigan is on a “pause”. So consider picking up some gift certificates so someone can grab some takeout when they need a time out.

Take a step back in time at Greenfield Village. Between the IMAX screen, the Rouge Factory tour and so many other options, you can ensure a fun filled day that’s both entertaining and educational. I recently went there for the Marvel Exhibit at The Henry Ford and we took some time to walk around the museum before the exhibit and a lot has changed since my elementary school field trip days! I’m definitely putting another visit on my list for 2021.
A gift certificate to Michigan Massage and Wellness. It would be remiss of me to not include a shameless plug for a visit to our practice. Whether it’s stretching that they need, targeted pain relief or a blissful escape from life, we’ve got you covered.
Now, go forth and plan some amazing times that they’ll remember forever!
In good hands,
Rebecca Tamm, LMT
