Meet Michigan Massage and Wellness
When it comes to choosing a massage therapist, what do you look for? Convenience? Price? Geographic desirability? Or do you just throw caution to the wind, Google it and pick whoever pops up first? Or are you the type to do a lot of research and find a practice that best fits in with you? I do the latter, and many of our clients do, so it would be an excellent opportunity to introduce Michigan Massage and Wellness to you!
I’m Rebecca Tamm, and Michigan Massage and Wellness is my child. I started my practice in 2004, so I guess if it were an actual human being, it would be driving by now. And I’d be able to kick it out of the house, ha! That’s a scary thought. And also equally scary are those moments of “I could theoretically have an 18-year-old kid right now if I had gone down a different path”.
Where to start….so I never gave massages when I was younger and had people say, “you’re great at this! You should go to massage school!” Nor did I love getting massages so much that I decided on it as a career choice. I am a high school dropout who resigned herself to cubicle life at the ripe old age of 23. Still, what can only be described as a quarter-life crisis, I saw a brochure for Irene’s Myomassology Institute and decided to take a tour. I went to work the next day, put in my two weeks’ notice, cashed in my 401k to pay for school, and 20 years later, here we are.
When I was in massage school, all I wanted to do was work for a fancy spa doing fancy body treatments, and I got a job doing just that, but I hated it. So, with two clients to my name, another chance encounter led me to my first office in Royal Oak (where Royal Oak Massage resided for 12+ years). Then in 2017, I took a leap of faith and landed in our office on Maple Road in Troy, where we are now.
Truthfully, things have changed much to where I thought I would be with this business. And I love it. Michigan Massage and Wellness offers therapeutic massage, Ashiatsu, Fascial Stretch Therapy, Lokte Method, MPS Therapy, medical massage, cupping therapy, prenatal massage, scar tissue therapy, concussion treatments, and more.
We offer the best of both worlds: the clinical, targeted pain relief side and the “I just want to relax and forget about life for an hour” side.
Enjoy a 90-minute Ashiastu session with Nicole and be transported to another realm with a deeper deep tissue massage. Or plant yourself on Naomi’s table as she soothes those aches and pains with a 90-minute Restore session or a more targeted, deep tissue Fix that can be upwards of 2 hours with our pain management specialist, Karl. Or try something different, like a manual lymphatic drainage session while you are healing from surgery.
We are an outcome-based massage practice specializing in unique modalities to combat problems such as migraines, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, sports injuries, pre/post-surgery recovery, and of course, the everyday stress that life brings. We are also one of the only places in the state to offer Yoga Tune Up® classes to focus on reducing/eliminating pain, improving posture, and enhancing performance using Roll Model® therapy balls. There is no meditation or zen; the focus with Yoga Tune Up® is exercise, mobility, self-massage, and functional and therapeutic movement. Offering both in-person and online classes, rest assured your problems are what we thrive on correcting. Michigan Massage and Wellness doesn’t subscribe to the ‘one size fits all’ massage approach because each body is different, and we believe in a customized session best suited for your needs and your particular area of concern.
So the next time you’re in pain, you’re feeling stressed from life, and you want to calm that Hulk-like rage that is starting to simmer, or you’ve had enough subpar massages (but they’re cheap!), check us out.
In Good Hands,
Rebecca Tamm, LMT
