My new friend/colleague Rebecca DiLiberto posted this question recently and while I can’t come close to putting things as eloquently as she did, it got me thinking….what gets you out of bed in the morning?
And no, it’s not your alarm clock. Or the demands of the day-your job, your children/family, your obligations. But really, what REALLY gets you out of bed in the morning? Or do you not know or worse, don’t have a purpose that gets you to start your day with vigor and enthusiasm.
Now, what gets me out of bed in the morning are my dogs. They’re so needy! But, what really gets me up and going is knowing that it’s another day to help people, another day to fix people. Another day to be grateful that I stumbled into a career in massage therapy and that it has allowed me to work for the past 12+ years doing something that I love. There are so many people out there that don’t have that luxury. People who go through the motions-wake up, drink coffee, sit in traffic, sit at a job that they are good at and pays decent, but they’re not loving it, come home, fight with their significant other about one thing or another, go to bed and repeat the cycle.
I’m not saying that you should all go into work like “screw you! I’m out!” because come on, we are all adults here and we do have responsibilities…..but what I am saying is that if you don’t have something that makes you excited to get up and face the day, go find it! Pick up a new hobby, do some volunteer work for a cause that is near and dear to your heart, do something nice and unexpected for someone else (and expect nothing in return). You get the point. Do SOMETHING that makes you happy and grateful to have the ability to do it.
In good hands,
