Massage for Your Health

Michigan Massage and Wellness is more than just a spa; it's an outcome-focused therapy practice. We tailor treatments to your specific needs. No fluffy robes here – we're here to address your real health concerns, whether it's sciatica, plantar fasciitis, or auto accident recovery. Your body deserves the best care.

Did you know that regular massages can help improve your health?

If there is one thing that we at Michigan Massage and Wellness are known for, it is the variety of massage and bodywork services that we offer at our Troy practice.

We have always maintained the fact that we are not a spa, so if you’re looking for the fluffy robes, cucumber water and (sometimes) subpar massages that don’t even last a full hour, you are in the wrong place. If you’re looking to find a therapist that knows how to treat your sciatica, plantar fasciitis, scar tissue, stuck and locked up joints or to help you recover from an auto accident, welcome to our practice.

Michigan Massage and Wellness is an outcome based massage therapy practice.

What does that mean, you ask? Simply put, we develop a specific treatment plan tailored to you and your problems. We aren’t going to do the same massage on someone that has a strain in their sacroiliac joint as we would with someone who has battling with sciatica for years because not only are they two different conditions (even though they are affecting the same region), but also because they are two different bodies. And what works for one person may not work for another.

For example, last year I saw a new client with frozen shoulder (or adhesive capsulitis for the body nerds reading). Frozen shoulder is one of our FAVORITE things to treat. Seriously. Bring us your busted up shoulders and let us work our magic on it. So, I had formulated this entire treatment plan for said client. We were going to start with Lokte Method and then I was going to move into some Fascial Stretch Therapy and maybe end with a little bit of targeted manual therapy for good measure, to really hone in on the SITS (supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres and subscapularis, which are the 4 muscles that make up your rotator cuff).

Well, said client came in and was so on edge about the treatment (because she had already been hurt by two previous massage therapists) that I could barely touch her with my hands, let alone dig my heels into her pec muscles to start the Lokte Method session. So, quick thinking kicked in and we changed the entire session and she reported some relief.

But it didn’t end there. She needed to come in weekly for several weeks, sometimes for 30 minutes, sometimes 45 or 60, because it isn’t a one session fixes all outcome. Because let me tell you, especially with something like frozen shoulder, it is almost never fixed in one session. It takes consistency. It didn’t happen overnight, it’s not going to go away overnight.

So the next time something hurts or you’re just not seeing an improvement with what you’re doing, reach out to us and lets talk about what you’re dealing with and see if it is something that we can help with. You only get one body. Treat it right.

In good hands,

Rebecca Tamm, LMT
